Establishing a Community Information
  Center

Nancy is the author (with Jamie LaRue and Bonnie McCune) of Community Based Librarianship: A Manual and Planning Tools. Following this manual, six libraries in Bulgaria have already developed Community Information Centers (CIC). The workshop and the manual, appropriate for both U.S. and International audiences, cover the following topics:
  • What is community based librarianship?
  • The Library as a Community Information Center
    • Organizing to become a CIC
    • Developing a CIC
    • Collaboration with Community Agencies and Groups
    • Library Programming
  • Marketing CICs
  • Fundraising
  • Working with Local and National Authorities

We are available to work with a library to develop a Community Information Center or to train local library staff in developing a CIC. Establishing an CIC often means a change in a library’s service philosophy and an significant increase activity in the community.
